This study presents a methodology to face the challenges that cities face in selecting sustainable and cost-effective transportation modes, helping planners make choices that can be expressed not only in monetary terms but also in environmental benefits associated with the implementation of more sustainable options of transportation such as a Bikesharing system (BSS).

We formulated a bi-criteria optimization model that minimizes the total cost of BSS implementation and maximizes the reduction of CO2 emissions developing a robust framework about the tradeoff between BSS implementation cost and its environmental impact, due to the change of transportation modes in order to support the decision-making process.
